Surat Speaks - Shri Rajeshbahi Desai, Chairman, Standing Committee, SMC shares his views......

“One cannot deny the connection between humans and environmental pollution. It is for us, to understand it and make efforts.” Says Shri Rajeshbhai Desai.





Shri Rajeshbhai is the current Chairman of Standing Committee of SMC – Surat Municipal Corporation. His association with various agencies and groups, government and NGOs, in solving the issues of Surat is known to almost every citizen. His recent efforts to solve the severe issue of transportation and parking problems in the areas in the vicinity of schools and colleges have yielded very good results.

Shree Desai is a senior corporator of SMC who belongs. He is one of those leaders who not only knows the issues of city, but is also very keen in finding a solution through continuous efforts. With his simple nature, he remain in direct connection of common people of the city, always finding the right diagnosis of the problem, and the solution thereafter.

“Removing of trees and decreasing green cover has been taken very seriously by SMC, and we are continuously arranging tree plantation programmes through SMC and other NGOs, with single objective to increase green cover of the city. Green cover and gardens, are like the lungs of the city that provide fresh air for a better life. We have even included this issues in various tenders, as a mandatory clause and we are determined to improve the current situation.” Says Shri Desai firmly.

He further added that the team of SMC has always shown tremendous determination to help fight the natural calamities life flood. Recalling the flood of 2006, he said that SMC is not only more equipped to help citizens in such calamities but also we are working on prevention of such events. The construction of flood prevention walls, the ‘pallas’ in Gujarati is at various stages of completion and soon, severe floods would be history for our Surat.

“I appeal every citizen not only to plant a tree, at individual level, but to take care of it, conserve it and take the challenge to fight the climate change by joining hands with us. The challenge may be difficult, but the solution is not impossible……!”
